EMOTIONAL WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

Today, despite still possessing nuclear arms, in truth our most destructive weapons are the emotional powder keys spreading through the globe. Medical professional LUCY O’HAGAN explains here in this article based on her critically acclaimed debut book ‘Beyond The Here And Now’ how better care of our emotional wellbeing can help us transform this world rather than destroy it. Understanding and using our emotional energy might well be the key to a far better life beyond the here and now…

We have been taught little about our emotions, their development or the important role they play in our ability to create and sustain a happy life. In our lifetime we have been given many mixed messages about our own emotions and their expression. They will have been encouraged on occasions, discouraged on others, fully expressed or sometimes totally repressed. As children we have learned that there are good emotions and bad emotions, that some are acceptable, some are unacceptable. We will have been made aware that it is not always ‘safe’ to express our emotions and that displaying extremes of emotions is frowned on by all.

However emotions are the vehicle through which a thought gains its power and meaning. Attaching an emotion to a thought form is the equivalent of igniting the rocket fuel in a spacecraft. The thought form becomes energized and is released into the Universe with purpose in search of recognition and manifestation. The intensity of the emotion coupled with frequent repetition of that particular thought aids its realization. And we are, whether we realize it or not, activating this process already; the only problem is the emotional passion that we are creating can be harnessing the power of destructive emotions rather than life-enhancing ones. Right now vast populations in nations like Syria and the Ukraine may have the collective thought, for example, ‘No one cares about us.’  This creates a ‘movie’ comprising of a series of thoughts, ‘seeing’ themselves in ever increasing life-threatening and isolated situations where we are being actively abandoned. They ‘feel’ the emotion that such a state of affairs will cause and identify with it totally; becoming the displaced peoples that no one cares about. Their past experience and subconscious belief system are activated and they become passionate about the thought that ‘No one cares about us.’ This is sent out to the Universe, which then sets about creating situations that will mirror this belief.

One of the more insidious effects of this ‘collective emotional depression’ is the belief that there is no escape or hope. Historically physical aide has been given at the most basic level, in some cases, nations have been given large financial and material assistance to rebuild, the last example of this more successful kind was like the ‘Marshall Plan’ that rebuilt West Germany after WWII. Marshall based this generous plan largely on recent history and the principle that and oppressed, struggling ‘West Germany’ would be far more unstable and dangerous in the future than a nation and its people able to fend for themselves. The united Germany that has resulted since is a nation now economically powerful but more importantly a nation that has a very positive outlook for itself and its peoples.

Today’s approach engenders feelings of worthlessness, of being incapable, unlovable, alone in our difficulties; however, such episodes where everything feels so dreadful may actually be a period of transformation where by going through what are often deemed negative emotions we come through this period stronger and onto a new level of understanding and knowing not a lifelong dependence that leaves little room for empowering thoughts to help people to transform and grow again.

Our emotions are our most valuable currency in this time of change. Through awareness, choice and purposeful use of emotions, success and happiness are guaranteed for only then can we truly be master of our own destiny. This does not mean we are emotionless. We still feel each emotional state but we have a  recognition that we are not that emotion and do not allow ourselves to become defined by that emotion or describe ourselves in terms of that emotion…
