Enter this exclusive prize draw to win a free holiday at Cortijo Romero (flights excluded).
Cortijo Romero is a peaceful mountain retreat centre located in Las Alpujarras, Andalucia in Southern Spain. The centre, established 30 years ago, is devoted to the growth and development of people towards their full potential, welcoming guests and helping them to feel comfortable ‘being’ truly themselves. This allows for deeper, more meaningful connection — even within a group that has only just met – than many people experience in the course of their daily lives. It also enables conversations and being together in a way that is enriching and fun, and many people comment afterwards that the group, and the chance to be among like-minded people, is a hugely important aspect of their week at Cortijo Romero. And one lucky Kindred Spirit reader can win a coveted place on a course at Cortijo Romero in this their 30th anniversary year.
Courses on Offer
Perhaps the reason that the centre tends to attract ‘like-minded’ people is due to the nature of courses offered. Holidays are run almost all year round, and from Spring to Autumn, two courses run each week. The choice is wide – you can choose from yoga, tai chi, relationships, mindfulness, meditation, photography, creative writing, dance, singing to myths, mindfulness and transformation work… the list goes on. Each course is tailored with a view to making sure guests feel safe, to work through any issues they have, to learn new skills or ways of being, and to celebrate all that they are and that life can offer them. Even a course like photography will always be run with this particular Cortijo Romero ethos in mind – Ken Scott runs Mindful Photography weeks in which he encourages people to stop and really see what is there, becoming more aware of the beauty right in front of them, as a way to live life before pressing the camera button.
All facilitators at Cortijo Romero are chosen not only because they are a leader in their chosen field, and experienced in running international retreats, but also because they have undergone a journey of personal development themselves; many are counsellors and all are used to facilitating the group dynamics that can make a holiday with people you’ve never met before both challenging and potentially richly rewarding.
While all holidays include this element of giving space for people to be authentic, safe and supported within that, some of the weeks focus more on the real speciality of Cortijo Romero, which is personal development – growth – and the transformation of an individual towards their full potential. For this, course leaders are always highly experienced in facilitating a safe space to hold whatever may come up for each person and for the group as a whole. These weeks can be so powerful that people often tell us afterwards they are life-changing, and feedback often indicates how deeply touched people have felt.
For those who are not sure, the Being Here weeks give a chance to try various Cortijo Romero’s activities and to pace the week to your own needs. All weeks offer a day’s excursions into the surrounding mountains, visiting the unspoilt white villages of the region that cling to the steep-sided slopes. On these trips guests enjoy a picnic in the mountains and, during the summer months, the chance to splash in the water falls.
