“A flawless performance. Mitchell is an amazing talent.” San Francisco Examiner
Adapted for stage, and performed by American Actress Shelley Mitchell, TALKING WITH ANGELS makes its UK debut at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Summerhall’s Red Lecture Theater from 5 – 30 August. TALKING WITH ANGELS is the little known (until now!) true story of a spiritual journey as experienced by four close friends during the Nazi occupation of Hungary in 1943-44.
Living in a small village outside Budapest, ex-Olympic swimmer Gitta Mallasz and her three Jewish friends, Lili Strauss, Joseph Kreutzer and Hanna Dallos, held weekly gatherings where they transcribed channeled messages they received from what appeared to them to be angels –four distinctly different personalities—who emphasized the importance of individuality and authenticity as being key to living fully. At a time of deep despair and confusion, Hanna Dallos became the voice of the angels, and over a period of 17 months they all kept detailed notes of the 88 conversations they had with these transcendent visitors who answered their personal questions and brought them comfort.
“She’s the real deal!” Sean Penn
On stage, TALKING WITH ANGELS: BUDAPEST, 1943 is set at the London School of Economics in 1991, at one of the final talks given by the 84 year old Gitta Mallasz one year before her death. The absorbing mono-drama is adapted and performed by Shelley Mitchell. –In 1976, Gitta Mallasz turned the transcripts from the angel dialogues into the French best selling book Dialogue avec l’Ange which Shelley Mitchell then brought to life in her critically acclaimed one-woman play. TALKING WITH ANGELS takes audiences on an extraordinary real life journey whilst giving texture to the life-changing verbatim conversations Mallasz and her friends had with their celestial teachers.
